Road Tax

Everybody who drives will know the absolute pain in the backside known as Road Tax, we currently pay tax on our food, tax on our petrol, tax on our wages, tax on completely everything, the key one here is the tax we pay on petrol.      The petrol prices are high enough as it is but they just keep rising every single week, but then they want us to pay for the “privilege” of being able to drive on the road, oh I almost forgot when you buy a car we tax on that too.

Is it me or are we losing out here?

A Court

In the court there are many cases which get brought to their doors, whether its petty theft or someone who hasn’t paid their bills.    I actually have to go to court on friday to be a witness to an accident which happened 18 months ago, a long story short a guy was driving like an idiot and ended up crashing into a young girl.

I am going to this court hearing as there is no way I am letting this guy get away with it, oh btw I forgot to mention that at this court hearing, the guy is unbelievably trying to prosecute the girl.

Solicitors

I have always wondered what exactly a solicitor does, I know that they charge a lot of money but other than that I have no idea what they actually do.

I have a few friends that are solicitors and I have never actually asked the question, Barristers on the other hand attend court and are what you could call the arguers of the law profession, I would love to be a barrister and attend court all the time, putting away the criminals of this country, but then again I have a strong beleif that most people who are out away are done so wrongly.

Cleaner wins case against Barclays Bank

A former cleaner has a victory in her claim against the financial giant Barclays Bank, and she got a big hefty compensation which amounted to around 7000.      When she made her claim, it was for the unlawful and sensative subject of discrimination, as Barclays Bank had not accepted and refused to offer her insurance benefits just because she only had a part time job.

The cleaner, who is known as Sylvia Hayes, was awarded £7240 in a settlement which was made outside of the courts, which had the full backing of the Equal Opportunities Commission.

In my opinion this is one of those stupid court cases which seems to slip through the laws.

United States Supreme Court Review

Justice Sonia Sotomayor joins the US Supreme Court as it begins its term on October 5th with a docket dominated by corporate disputes.

At the moment no review has been granted to employment law cases or environmental disputes, and for quite a while now no pre-emption cases either.

But there are maybe some completely unpredicted changes on patents, separation of powers, antitrust law and even including white collar crime. The justices have the intention of also considering cases involving the profession which includes all legal staff,  which could unbeleivably change the every day practice of law.

Let’s see how this pans out.

Services you pay for are like goods

Dodgy mechanics take note…..My car began to overheat, even though there was enough water and coolant in the radiator, the garage assured me they had fixed the fault, but 3 days later the same thing happened.

As you can imagine the mechanic was very unhelpful and said as he’d fixed the first  fault he would have to take the car back in and charge me again. Not being one to accept this (or want to pay again!), I decided to check out my rights and found out that consumer law states when a ‘service’ is provided, it has to be with a satisfactory level of skill and care.

In other words, the goods mean the ‘thingamabob’ being fixed has got to be of a reasonable quality and either the person in the wrong puts it right or compensates you to get the service from somewhere else.

And the mechanic….he fixed the fault for free!

Terrorist removed from virtual house arrest

Our Home Secretary has let out one of the terrorists who was supporting the insurgency in Iraq and he fled Iraq in 2002 to come and live in Britain, he is known only as AE and is in his thirties.

Apart from helping the jihadist insurgency in Iraq, AE is supposedly (according to evidence) to be a leading figure in circles of Islamic extremists, all around the town he lived in.

There was a court order supposed to take place on 1st October in which AEs Lawyers were going to challenge the control order set by the Law Lords when he came to Britain.

Broadband Tax????

This is completely unbeleivable, I have just been reading about a new Tax that is to be introduced before the next general election, we are to pay £6 per annum as a Broadband Tax!     This is ridiculous and they should be ashamed of thinking up such a law, the worst thing about it is the fact that even if you do not have broadband / internet, you are still expected to pay it.

All the money is apparently going to be used for future faster broadband, somehow I don’t think that is going to happen, the money will be spent on the expenses for the poloticians.

Assisting Suicide

A new clarification has been given to the law about helping someone to commit suicide, there has been a number of factors given, which will be considered when dealing with each case, i.e. if the accomplice was acting out of compassion or for their own gain (financially etc).

This all came under the microscope following Debbie Purdy who suffered from multiple sclerosis, actually enquired as to the implications for her husband if he was to help her go to switzerland and commit suicide.

Back in July it was ruled she had the right to know if her husband was to be prosecuted.

Oregon Stupid Laws

I thought that there were some stupid laws in other states but I think I have found the best one in the land now. Here they are Oregon Laws….

1. In the state of Oregon you are not allowed to walk backwards on a city street while eating a Doughnut.

2. Did you know it is illegal to install a burgular alarm without buying a $10 permit to do so.

3. Juggling is strictly prohibitted without a license. Which is a stupid law.

As you can see these are some of the stupidest laws that you have seen. I will follows this with some more stupid laws after my weeks break.
