Kazakhstan Internet Law

That’s right; Kazakhstan does actually have the internet! A couple of years ago the film Borat depicted the country and the people of Kazakhstan as being poor, backwards, homophobic and in general comedy cannon fodder!

Well the great country didn’t do much to deflect that statement recently when they clamped down on the Law that governs the internet in the country. The crack down now means that court proceedings can be brought against comments or articles published on blogs, chat rooms, forums and general social media websites.

Activists say this is clamping down on freedom of speech with some people claiming it is to silence anybody that speaks out against the countries president; however the countries government has reacted by saying it is to clamp down on distribution of child pornography, extremist literature and other unsuitable material.
